Futon Beds – Sleep Close to the Floor with Style
A futon bed combines traditional Japanese sleeping culture with modern design, offering a natural sleeping environment. The low bed height creates a feeling of grounding, which can positively influence sleep quality. Our solid wood futon beds are versatile and suitable for both futon and traditional mattresses.
Futon Bed – Minimalism and Comfort Combined
Originally developed in Japan, the futon bed is characterized by its simple design and proximity to the floor. While people used to sleep directly on the floor on mats made of cotton or horsehair, today's futon bed combines this traditional approach with modern comfort.
Thanks to their solid wooden construction, futon beds are stable and durable. In addition to futon mattresses, natural latex or innerspring mattresses can also be used. Discover our selection of stylish futon beds for a relaxing sleep experience.
The Advantages of a Futon Bed
At a height of only about 30 cm above the floor, the futon bed creates a cozy atmosphere and a natural sleeping experience. Especially when combined with a futon mattress, you'll enjoy an incomparably natural sleeping experience.
Our futons are made exclusively from natural materials and exude a pleasant, earthy scent. Combined with an untreated or oiled solid wood bed, sleeping becomes a special pleasure.

A futon bed as an expression of personal style
When futon beds came to Central Europe in the 1980s, they were considered a true innovation. While industrially manufactured furniture with veneer surfaces dominated, the futon bed brought a return to natural materials and craftsmanship – solid wood instead of veneer.
Today, futon beds are usually natural (untreated) or oiled, which underscores their aesthetic and sustainable quality. Regardless of the mattress type, they offer a stable and stylish base for restful sleep in your cozy sleeping area, including storage space despite their low-lying position. A futon bed is more than just a piece of furniture – it is a conscious decision for minimalism, comfort, and naturalness. At Futonwerk, you can buy your futon bed online and have the bed frame delivered to your home as your new dream sleeping space.

Futon bed – low-to-the-floor beds for restful sleep
The futon bed has its origins in Japanese tradition. Back then,
people slept on hard mats made of natural materials such as horsehair or
cotton on the floor. Today, sleeping close to the floor is combined
with the comfort of a bed. The term "futon bed" has become established
as a designation for floor-level bed models.
This low-height solid wood bed accommodates not only futon
mattresses, but also traditional natural mattresses, such as natural
latex. Discover our wide selection of futon beds in modern and simple
designs for low-to-the-floor sleeping in the Japanese style.
What are the advantages of futon beds?
Sleeping on a futon bed is just 30 cm above the floor, creating an
earthy, cozy feeling when falling asleep. If you choose to add a futon
mattress to your futon bed, you'll benefit even more from the natural,
earthy feeling when falling asleep.
Our futons are made entirely of pure natural fibers and exude a
pleasant natural scent. Together on a futon bed made of natural or oiled
solid wood, you'll be happy to finally be able to lie down in your own
bed every night.
Futon bed - low bed height for more comfort
The futon bed is characterized by its low bed height and is perfect
for people who prefer sleeping close to the floor and want to create a
cozy atmosphere in the bedroom. Futon beds are known for their flat
design and are suitable for various mattress types, such as innerspring
mattresses, pocket spring mattresses, cold foam mattresses, natural
latex mattresses, or even futon mattresses. They all have one thing in
common: they allow sleeping close to the floor.
Futon bed 140x200 – restful sleep in a small space
A 140x200cm futon bed is the perfect solution for small bedrooms.
The bed's flat design visually enlarges the space and creates a cozy
atmosphere. With a futon mattress, sleeping on a futon bed becomes a truly natural experience.
Futon beds in standard and extra large sizes
Our futon beds are made of solid wood and feature a
simple design. They are available in various sizes, including 140 x 200
cm. A futon bed of this size is perfect for individuals or couples with
limited bedroom space. We offer Japanese futon beds in various sizes,
including the standard length of 200 cm, as well as extra-long lengths of 210 cm or 220 cm.
The futon bed - a question of style
When we launched the first futon beds in the mid-1980s, it was a
small evolution. In Central Europe, the materials industry already had a
pretty strong grip on the market, and pressboard beds with every
possible veneer surface, like the famous rustic oak, were available
everywhere. Carpenters had little involvement in the industry,
especially in larger cities, because they couldn't compete on price.
It was also considered fashionable to own such material furniture. The
futon bed, with its completely different look, suddenly felt like a
liberation for an entire generation. Bedrooms became living spaces
again, and a new culture was able to thrive.
The futon bed itself has certainly contributed to the renewal of
our society. In contrast to the past, when almost all futon beds were
black or painted, today's futon beds are predominantly natural or oiled.
Therefore, a futon bed is a matter of style, and if it's of good
quality and construction, it will support any type of mattress or
sleeping system, and certainly not just futons.
