Solid wood beds - Natural quality for restful sleep

A solid wood bed is much more than just a place to sleep — it represents comfort, durability, and a healthy indoor climate. The combination of timeless design and masterful craftsmanship transforms your bedroom into a place of rest and relaxation.

The advantages of a solid wood bed

A high-quality bed made of solid wood creates a cozy atmosphere and promotes a pleasant sleeping environment. The natural properties of wood support a healthy indoor climate and ensure a relaxing ambiance. Whether untreated or finished with natural oil or wax, the smooth surface is not only pleasant to the touch but also contributes to air quality.

The design variety ranges from floating constructions to robust beam beds to classic models with headboards and footboards. Metal-free beds with sophisticated constructions are also available.

Buy solid wood for quality and sustainability

A genuine solid wood bed is made from solid pieces of wood, which is fundamentally different from veneered or laminated models. Processing according to DIN 68871 ensures that all components are made of the same type of wood and are not veneered. The environmentally friendly glue joints are stable and harmless to health.

The choice of wood species plays a crucial role – from heartwood beech to wild oak to walnut or Swiss pine, each variant offers unique aesthetic and functional properties. Solid wood beds impress with their stability, durability, and sustainable production, making them a valuable investment in your home.

Find the right solid wood bed

Choosing the right bed depends on several factors:

  • Does the design match your interior design style?
  • Does the workmanship meet your quality standards?
  • Is the bed compatible with your mattress or sleep system?
  • Does the price fit your budget?

Whether it's an elegant designer bed, a cozy four-poster bed, or a simple, sturdy model – the perfect bed is the one in which you feel completely comfortable.

Choosing the right bed size

The size of the bed significantly influences sleeping comfort. More space means more freedom of movement, while a bed that's too large can be uncomfortable for some people. Generally, the bed should be at least 20 cm longer than your height.

Our standard and special sizes:

  • Single bed: 90x200 cm, 100x200 cm, 120x200 cm
  • Double bed: 140x200 cm, 160x200 cm, 180x200 cm, 200x200 cm
  • Special sizes: 90x210 cm, 100x220 cm, 200x220 cm

A high-quality solid wood bed will accompany you for many years and should therefore be chosen carefully. Consider your needs regarding appearance, feel, and functionality to find the ideal model.
We would be happy to advise you individually so that you can discover the perfect solid wood bed for your home.

The solid wood bed – natural quality for your home

High-quality beds are more than just a place to sleep—they are a symbol of well-being and, depending on the features, comfort.  High-quality solid wood beds  can reflect the natural warmth in the bedroom and create a relaxing ambiance. With their organically warm and breathable material, they promote a  pleasant sleeping environment  and are a basic feature of a bedroom where we feel comfortable and relaxed, achieving peace and contentment.

The smooth, sanded surface, untreated or finished with natural oil or wax, is soft to the touch and also acts as an effective air filter. The  variety of designs  ranges from futons and floating beds to robust beam beds or metal-free beds with intelligent construction. Classic bed frames with headboards and footboards for adults and children are also available.

Classic bed frames with headboards and footboards for adults and children are also available. At Futonwerk, we pay attention not only to the quality of the material but also to the stability of the bed model, so that a  good night's sleep  is not disturbed by squeaking and creaking.

Then we consider the variety of different wood types and the influence of the oil on the structure and color of the wood. Woods such as heartwood beech, wild oak, walnut, alder, ash, birch, or Swiss stone pine offer numerous design options. Whether the wood comes from sustainable forestry and the bed is handcrafted or industrially influences the quality and sustainability. A high-quality solid wood bed combines  comfort, durability, and naturalness .

What characterizes a real solid wood bed?

A solid wood bed differs from veneered or laminated beds in that it uses solid pieces of wood (solid wood, without any additional materials). All parts of a piece of furniture are made of a single type of wood and may be glued, but not veneered  (DIN 68871 standard).

The glued joints are generally 100% stable, and the amount of modern, non-toxic glue used is barely measurable and completely harmless. Solid wood (Vollholz)  means that all parts of a piece of furniture are made of solid, unglued pieces. This often has an unbeatable grain, but is very expensive for long pieces, such as bed sides.

Most of our bed models are made of solid wood , which produces excellent results, especially with joinery-quality wood. Finally, there is also real wood (real wood veneer), which simply means it's made of wood, usually a tabletop with a glued-on veneer surface.

The choice of wood plays a crucial role in solid wood beds. Untreated or finished with natural oils: heartwood beech, wild oak, walnut, or Swiss pine – each wood offers its own aesthetic and functional advantages. In addition to their appearance, solid wood beds impress with their stability and sustainability. They are also free of harmful substances, and their processing promotes pollutant-free indoor air.

Which solid wood bed is right for me?

Due to the sheer variety of solid wood bed models, it's almost impossible to make a general recommendation about which model suits which type, as lifestyle magazines often do.
The  decision for your own bed  should first come from your gut, your initial feeling, which then needs to stand up to rational consideration of the details:

  • Does the  design  of the bed harmonize with my apartment?
  • Does the  build quality suit me ? (Surface, construction, stability, details)
  • Is it  compatible with my mattress, futon, or sleep system ? (Frame height/depth, other dimensions, and possible obstacles)
  • Does the price fit my  budget ?

Find your perfect bed. It will do you good, bring you joy every day, and encourage you to engage positively with sleep.
For some, it's a designer bed with its unusual design that stimulates the senses. For others, it's a cozy four-poster bed that invites you to snuggle up. For many, it should be minimalist, blend in simply, and simply provide stability, because the mattress is the most important part of a good night's sleep.
Either way, what matters is that you make it your place, your refuge, your personal sanctuary.

The right size for your solid wood bed

The size of your bed significantly influences your sleeping comfort. A little more space also means more relaxation, because your balance and safety systems are hardly needed at night. On the other hand, too much space can also be confusing because it lacks orientation. This varies from bed to bed.

Single beds  made of solid wood are available in standard sizes such as 90x200 cm or 100x200 cm. Models from 140x200 cm are particularly popular

For couples, with 180x200 cm or 200x200 cm offering additional space for more freedom of movement.

The  length of the bed  should ideally be at least  20 cm longer than your body length  to ensure safe and comfortable sleeping in any position.

Since a  quality bed has a very long lifespan  and is usually used for a correspondingly long time, the decision regarding the size should be carefully considered. The appropriate range is available.

Configure your solid bed in the right size

Remember that your well-being and, in the long term, your health are at stake when you consider the question of which bed is right for you.
Ask yourself about the importance of  appearance , of a pleasing appearance (whether particularly striking or particularly simple), of  feel , of touch - for example, how important is the smoothness and suppleness of the surface - but also of  smell - whether your bed is better if it is odorless, like untreated hardwood, or if it smells of fresh oil or even of tree resin, like that of stone pine.

How do I behave in bed ? Do I move a lot or a little in my sleep? Do I like to lie in bed for pleasure or just to sleep? All of these things influence  the right bed size . If you're unsure about anything, especially when it comes to technology, dimensions, and materials, please don't hesitate to ask us. We're happy to share our knowledge and ideas with you because we want you to  feel truly comfortable with our products .
